Mississippi Avenue in North Portland is fast becoming one of the hippest Portland neighborhoods.

Located just on the east side of the Willamette River, this North Portland neighborhood is the home of diverse restaurants, coffee shops and unique stores.

A mere hop-skip across the Willamette River from downtown, North Mississippi Avenue is a neighborhood that has reinvented itself following the 2004 MAX light rail connection and an influx of local entrepreneurs. Perhaps no establishment better embodies the area’s self-made vibe than The Rebuilding Center, a 40,000-square-foot (12,192-square-meter) emporium of recycled home materials that outfitted many of the new businesses along the avenue. A cornerstone of the burgeoning area is the Fresh Pot coffeehouse, a converted pharmacy with Wi-Fi and outdoor seating. Quirky cafés, restaurants, bars and a craft brewery (Amnesia Brewing) are mixed among retail establishments like Pin-Me Apparel and Bridge City Comics, a lively hotspot for graphic novel enthusiasts. Mississippi Avenue cranks up the volume with music, art and food on the second Thursday of each month at the popular Mississippi Social. Mississippi Studios’ intimate space is considered the city’s best venue for acoustic music.

For a taste of Mississippi: There are hearty breakfasts at Gravy restaurant, savory dinners at Equinox, and seasonal entrees at Lovely Hula Hands restaurant. Nightly live music goes well with the pizza and beer at Mississippi Pizza & Pub, while Mississippi Station, the restaurant adjoining Mississippi Studios, features a relaxing patio where outdoor movies are shown in the summer.

Multnomah is a neighborhood in the Southwest section of Portland, Oregon, centered around the Multnomah Village business district.

The community developed in the 1910s around a depot of the Oregon Electric Railway of the same name. It was annexed by the city of Portland in the 1950s.

Multnomah lies between SW 45th Ave. in the west, SW Capitol Hill Rd. in the east, SW Vermont St. in the north, and I-5 in the south. Exceptions are the area north of SW Nevada Ct. and east of SW 26th Ave. (part of Hillsdale), an area south of SW Multnomah Blvd. and north of SW Dolph St. where SW 48th Ave. is the western border, and an area south of SW Marigold St. where SW Capitol Highway is the western border. The neighborhood is bordered by Maplewood, Ashcreek, and Crestwood on the west, Hayhurst and Hillsdale to the north, and South Burlingame, Markham, and West Portland Park to the south and east.
A bit of Portland history played out in the Village on April 7, 1987 when Mayor Bud Clark fired Police Chief Jim Davis while the two were having a breakfast meeting at the Fat City Cafe.

The neighborhood celebrates “Multnomah Days” with a parade and street festival each August.

Hillsboro, Oregon has old fashioned charm, yet is only 20 minutes away from the big city amenities of Portland. It offers a variety of parks, fairs, historical places and rural beauty that can appeal to any visitor’s taste. Hillsboro is the government seat of Washington County, a fast growing area of Oregon. But, people there still share a smile and extend a friendly welcome to visitors.

Hillsboro’s downtown area is also a unique blend of old and new buildings. The historic Washington County Courthouse, with its stately sequoia trees, is across the street from the modern Civic Center, which was designed to be a people friendly gathering area. The Civic Center, which is part of Hillsboro’s vision for its community’s future, incorporates environmentally friendly construction and design with many beautiful artistic features, both inside and outside of the facility. The Hillsboro Saturday Farmers’ Market is held May through October on the streets around the Courthouse and Civic Center.
Tualatin has more than 200 acres of parks, green spaces and greenways.
